The Fox Cities-Kurgan Sister Cities Program connects two communities that lie nearly 9,000 miles away from one another, on clear opposite sides of the world. For anyone who has participated in our programs or had the opportunity to travel to our host region in Russia, the connection is instant, and the distance becomes a mere number, but for everyone else, it's difficult to connect with and understand people who live so far away.

To bring our communities together, the sister cities program launched a 20th Anniversary media initiative in 2010, through which local news outlets from both our communities will exchange stories and information throughout a six-month period in an effort to raise awareness of our program, our history, and our ongoing connections.

In addition to the programs listed below, we encourage sharing of videos and other media that relate to our programming. To the right of this page, you'll see links to videos from our recent Kurgan-based program titled "The Five Project" as well as locally-produced videos of the Kurgan region.

Media Exchange |

just the good news

The keystone of the Media Exchange program is an information-sharing project between news agencies in the Kurgan and Fox Cities Regions. Through partnerships with television, newspaper, and radio, monthly news summaries are shared between our sister communities. By spreading information about each other and sharing the interesting things happening in our communities, we create a closer bond and work to eliminate stereotypes and misunderstandings.

The stories we share are the happy ones: good things going on in our communities, successes and celebrations, and fun facts that are just interesting to know. If you have a piece of news you'd like to share, or have a question you'd like answered about our sister region, please tell us!

Student Press |

media exchange for a younger audience

Closely connected with our education initiatives between schools in the Fox Cities and Kurgan regions is a student press exchange that has similar aims to the larger community information sharing project. We connect schools - from elementary through university - with a partner in our sister community, and then facilitate similar monthly exchanges of articles, photos, and other stories between them. For students studying English in Russia, we encourage them to write stories to be printed directly in local student press here, and similarly for students of Russian in the Fox Cities.

If you would like your school's press included in our Media Initiatives, please contact Brett Schilke at 920-358-0765, or by e-mail at info [at] foxcitieskurgan [dot] org.
